By Caro,

What is a Vineyard Walking Tour?

Let’s be honest — when someone says ‘vineyard walking tour’, you’re thinking…  am I about to suffer?

Not on French Wine Adventures!

  • We walk – but we take our time and dont overdo it –  around 10km a day. If you would like more walking there are many circular routes near the accommodation that offer delightful extra nuggets.
  • We walk – but we take the time to enjoy a long lunch with excellent food and wine.
  • We walk – but we take the time to wine taste at a vineyard /winery along the way.

🙂

Is this about fun or fitness test?

We are delighted to say it is absolutely about fun but you will also get a good stretch of the legs. Food and wine taste so much better after a couple of hours of walking in magnificent vineyard landscapes.

French Wine Adventures walking tours can be adjusted to suit you – we can adjust to guests based on levels of fitness – they are small group tours so customisation is possible. However, they are not suitable for guests that have difficulty walking – for this we also offer classic wine tours with limited walking.

We have categorised the French Wine Adventures walking tours using the system below.

Easy: fine for occasional walkers – for example the Wine Adventure Day  or the St Emilion Grand Cru Tour

  • Average walk distance: 2 to 5 kms
  • Average walking time: Up to 2 hours

Moderate: for those who walk on a regular basis – for example the Monbazillac Walking Tour with Michelin Star restaurant lunch or one of the circuits on our Casual Walking Tour in South West France

  • Average walk distance: 6 to 10kms
  • Average walking time: Up to 4 hours

Moderate plus: for walkers who are comfortable with ascents and descents and slightly uneven terrain – for example several of our Casual Walking Tours in South West France – we have many routes to propose departing from our HQ in Saussignac

  • Average daily distance: 8-14kms
  • Average walking time: up to 4-5 hours

We walk through the vines your wine comes from. We get up close to the soil. You hear the insider wine gossip. You understand why a Bordeaux tastes like Bordeaux, St Emilion like a St Emilion or a Saussignac like a Saussignac.

Is it hard?

So on the question of ‘will I suffer?’ Honestly? Sitting in a van being driven from château to château is far more exhausting.

When you walked the vineyards, touch the soil, hear the stories… that glass isn’t just wine anymore.

If this is your kind of holiday — Come walk with us!

New Tours and Activities launched in 2023 continue in 2025

French Wine Adventures are excited to announce the new tours and activities launched in 2023 have been so successful that we will continue them in 2025.

A day of education on the French Wine Regions

French wine can be confusing. Part of the secret to understanding wine is understanding geography and grape varietals. On this course you will discover the major wine regions of France and wine tasting. You will explore the French landscape and taste 10 different wines from across France.

This is a fun day of discovery guaranteed to leave you more confident with a restaurant wine list featuring French wine.

A Relax and Restore Day with Yoga and Wine Mini Retreat

We start with a morning stroll in the vines and an hour of hatha vinyasa yoga in the shade outside (if the weatheris inclement the yoga is inside). From there we move to the delightful tasting room at Chateau Feely – an eco-friendly wood, stone and hemp insulated building made of natural materials for wine tasting with a focus on senses and tasting meditatively. That takes us to a luscious 3 course lunch (please notify us on booking if you are vegetarian or have special food needs) at a delighful restaurant. In the afternoon you explore restorative yoga and meditation. The yoga is suitable for beginners.

To be the first to hear about new experiences or to discover more about wine we invite you to join our mailing list below.

French Wine Adventures bookings are open and COVID-19 protocol

PROTOCOLS due to COVID19 regulations/ Recommendations

We have been working hard to make sure that we can offer a coherent experience that respects the new sanitary regulations at French Wine Adventures and Chateau Feely this season.

French Wine Adventures multi day tours and classes will restart on 27 June for private groups (min 2 people).

From 27 June we will be open for a limited set of day visits at Chateau Feely and subject to these principles:

  • All visits must be booked in advance
  • Maximum 9 visitors at a time / preference for private group bookings
  • Tasting outside when possible, at all times, people that booked together will be seated together and other parties will be seated at separate tables that respect social distancing
  • Hand sanitiser is available and obliged at the entrance to the wine school/ tasting room area
  • Individual spittoons are provided

We ask visitors and clients to please:

  • Respect social distancing of at least 1m
  • Sanitise your hands before entering our premises (we have sanitiser available)
  • Please avoid touching anything unnecessarily
  • Take all the recommended precautions (eg wash your hands regularly, sneeze into your elbow, don’t touch your face) and please don’t visit us if you are experiencing any symptoms of illness

In addition we have limited the type of visits we offer this year in order to be able to better take care of you and us, given the current knowledge, and stage, of coronavirus. The Chateau Feely outside self-guided trail offers a great way to explore the vines on your own. Book a tour and prepacked picnic (or bring your own and buy our wine) to have outside in beautiful Feely vineyard.

Here is the list of the day visits we have available at Chateau Feely this season:
